Save the rails
Greece has a rich railway infrastructure heritage, preserved since the heyday of the industry (the second half of the 19th century – the beginning of the 20th century). However, only a very small part of them has a protective status and recognized as a subject with cultural value. There are many railways that are in danger of been disappearing. At the same time, most of the unique infrastructure of railway transport, hidden in the Greek hinterland, have no protective status and tend to be forgotten. The Piraeus, Athens and Peloponnese Railways and many others have amazing beauty and historical value, but every year the original railway buildings become less. Many of valuable railway infrastructure objects were demolished, distorted by reconstructions by local authorities or stolen by dishonest people and sold to scrap. We do our best to preserve those unique monuments of railway heritage. Join us!.
